Did you know that your Springfield MO plumbers are on standby to assist you with all of your plumbing needs? That includes your shower head repair or replacement! If you have lived in your home for a while, or if you are a renter, you may have noticed a steady build up of grime on your showerhead. The barnacle-like minerals will eventually clog up the holes through which water travels, creating an uneven or weakened flow of water in your shower. If your shower head has fallen victim to this unsightly build up, don’t worry! We have a list of all of the best tips for cleaning your showerhead, making it look as good as new. If you run into a plumbing emergency during your cleaning, make sure to call your Springfield MO plumbers at Roto-Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service for all of your plumbing and drain cleaning needs. Follow these steps to get started!

Begin this quick and easy process by gathering up these common household items:

  • White distilled vinegar (1 cup)
  • A pair of scissors
  • A zip tie
  • A plastic bag

Now that you have all of the necessary supplies to make your shower head as good as new again, follow these six simple steps to make it happen:

Step 1:

Take the plastic bag and the white distilled vinegar, and pour the vinegar into the bag.

Step 2:

Place the zip tie around the shower head and begin tightening it (but not all the way!)

Step 3:

Bring the bag of vinegar up to the shower head, and submerge the shower head in the vinegar.

Step 4:

Pull the opening of the bag under the loose zip tie and tighten the zip tie to secure the bag in place.

Step 5:

Soak the shower head like this overnight.

Step 6:

The following day, remove the bag of vinegar from the zip tie and run water through the shower head for three minutes before using it.

If all else fails (and you still want to do this project yourself), follow these steps to replace your showerhead.

If your shower head is dated or if it does a poor job of conserving water, it might be time to replace it. If this task overwhelms you in any way, don’t worry! Your Springfield MO plumbers at Roto-Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service will not only expertly install new fixtures, but we will also present you with a variety of options that are highly rated and energy efficient. If you are confident enough to conquer this task on your own, follow this step by step guide in order to complete your shower head installation.

Step 1:

Gathering the necessary materials. Aside from the new shower head, you are going to need an adjustable wrench or a set of channel lock pliers and Teflon tape.

Step 2:

Take off the old shower head with your wrench, twisting counter clockwise. Make sure to hold onto the shower arm so it does not break off of the wall.

Step 3:

Clean any material build up, such as dirt, from the spigot. Also remove any rubber gaskets or tape left over from the threads of the shower arm.

Step 4:

Wrap the (now clean) threads of the shower arm with new Teflon tape.

Step 5:

Use the wrench to tighten the new shower head onto the arm. (Again, make sure to hold onto the shower arm while tightening.)

Step 6:

Run the shower for a few minutes and check for leaks.

If you have replaced your shower head and it is still leaking, it may not be your fault!

Sometimes the shower arm, itself, is damaged. This may cause the entire fixture to leak, no matter how new your shower head is. If you are certain the shower head has been installed incorrectly, or if you would like a professional opinion regarding your leaking fixture, do not hesitate to call Roto-Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service. If you would like to tackle the problem on your own, follow these easy steps:

Step 1:

Hold the shower arm firmly while carefully unscrewing from the wall, counter clockwise.

Step 2:

Once you have removed the old shower arm, clear any loose debris from the fitting within the wall. Apply pipe dope to the threads within the wall.

Step 3:

Wrap Teflon tape around the new shower head threads. (Wrap both ends, including the end that will be attached to your shower head.)

Step 4:

Screw the arm back into the hole in the wall, clockwise.

Step 5:

Attach the shower head to the exposed end of the arm, using the above instructions.

Step 6:

Run the water for a few minutes, checking for leaks around the seal.

Here are some things to consider when installing a rain showerhead.

If you are considering replacing your run-of-the-mill shower head with a luxurious rainfall experience, make sure you understand the implications prior to making the investment.

Consideration 1: Space

Measure your shower. Make sure the space you are working with is large enough to fit the larger-than-average fixture.

Consideration 2: Installation

In order to prevent water from dripping on one side, the fixture must be mounted at the proper angle. When you call your Springfield MO plumbers to install a rain shower head, we will insure that the arm is attached at a 90 degree angle. This will ensure the fixture achieves the complete rainfall experience and eliminate the annoying faucet drip.

Consideration 3: Energy Efficiency

When choosing the perfect fixture for your rainfall effect, don’t discount the importance of water conservation when it comes to your monthly budget. While some rainfall shower heads are designed to save water, most of them will expel much more than conventional shower heads. Make sure you know the specifications on a fixture before you make the purchase.
